Midnapore

Midnapore or Medinipur, the town which played a major role during the Indian independence movement and was the home of many freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the county’s freedom, is located in the Indian state of West Bengal, and this place is a prominent tourist destination in the state. It is bordered by regions of Orissa in the south and Jharkhand in the west. The district is named after Medinimata, a local deity in the region popular among the pilgrims here. Midnapore mainly serves as a place where you can brush up a bit of history and learn more about India’s freedom struggle. Many local monuments are present, dedicated to freedom fighters that lost their lives for a cause. History buffs will thus love traveling to Midnapore.

A temple built way back in the 17th century, called the Rukmini Temple, is also present in Midnapore and this is an interesting site that you can visit. During your trip to Midnapore, you should also visit the temples dedicated to Chapaleswar and Mahamaya. The winter season with its pleasant weather is the best time to visit Midnapore.
