Murshidabad

Murshidabad is place of Nawabs and Azimganj- Jiaganj are towns in Murshidabad district situated in two sides of Bhagirathi (Ganga) river in West Bengal state of India. Murshidabad was reputedly founded by the Mughal emperor Akbar in the 16th century. In 1704, the nawab Murshid Quli Khan (following Aurangzeb's orders) moved the capital there from Dacca and renamed the city Murshidabad. Murshidabad, due to its exciting past, houses different elements of History. The town of Murshidabad also falls into the category of historically important sites, and this town was the first capital of Bengal, before the British took over the reins and anointed the title to Kolkata.

You can also visit Madina Mosque that lies near the palace, and Nizamat Imambara, which was constructed at an expense of more than six lakhs back in those days. A new palace called Wasef Manzil stands on the banks of the holy river Ganga. This is an important tourist destination too.
Murshidabad is also the home of an old and reputed silk dyeing tradition that is still thriving today. You can avail beautiful and fashionable silk sarees from there which will double your excitement and give you a traditional look too.
